Last month, we posted about the transformation of La Mezzanine and how last winter we created some new bedrooms for guests at Chateau Dumas.
At the same time as creating La Mezzanine we also transformed another twin room next door, Les Chouettes, meaning The Owls. It shares an entrance with La Mezzanine and has the same lovely views over the lavender in the courtyard gardens with the pink chateau behind. Before being a bedroom, Les Chouettes was part of the old grain store in the Coach House. We already use some of the space in the Coach House and Les Chouettes is next door to the two-bedroom apartment and the bright airy studio space downstairs.
After the dusty and dirty work of adding windows, installing electrics and plumbing was finished, it was time for my favourite part - creating a beautiful and relaxing interior for our guests.
We painted the walls in a soft grey and left the original oak beams untouched - they add character to the room and it seemed a shame to hide them away. The long linen drapes are in a lovely rich blue and sway beautifully when a gentle breeze comes through the window. We placed an antique armchair, complete with a hand-printed ‘Varx’ cushion by Cameron Short of Bonfield Block Printers who taught at the Chateau a few years ago, by the window for Dumasiennes to relax and enjoy looking out over the gardens.
Since taking this photo we’ve added more paintings of flowers so it feels quite romantic and dreamy… We hope you enjoy the stay!
