Last winter we added two new ensuite bedrooms with air-conditioning for guests visiting Chateau Dumas. The rooms were converted from the old grain store which is part of the Coach House, the building across the courtyard from the Chateau. Parts of the Coach House have already been restored and it’s next to our large ground floor studio and the two-bedroom apartment above.
It was in quite a state when we started the project. The work took all winter, the floor joists were replaced, planning permission for the new windows sought and new electrics, plumbing and air-conditioning were installed before the floors were laid and the internal walls added and finally, we were able to decorate and dress the rooms. It was well worth the effort as we’re really pleased with the way it has turned out.
The two bedrooms have their own entrance from the Chateau’s main driveway. Wisteria drapes over the wrought-iron balustrade of the old stone staircase leading to the first floor entrance and hallway.
The bedroom on the left is La Mezzanine, so-called because the space is on two levels and extends over the entrance arch that the horse-drawn Coaches used to pass through in the 18th century. This winter we're adding a staircase to the upper level so that in 2020 this twin room will have one bed on the ground floor and another on the upper level, perfect for friends to share.
La Mezzanine has picturesque views over the courtyard gardens and the Chateau. In fact, we feature this iconic view on the home page of our website. The room has been decorated in neutral tones with soft grey drapes. It has an ensuite bathroom with a large walk-in rain shower. We’re looking forward to welcoming guests in 2020.
