About the Workshop

If you loved picking daisies as a child, you’re the perfect candidate for this workshop led by London-based floral magicians JamJar Flowers. From simple jam jar posies to dramatic displays in urns,  Melissa Richardson and her team will teach you the skills needed to create contemporary flower arrangements that look effortless, elegant and natural.

We begin the week with the foundations of floral design - how to select and condition your blooms and spiral stems into a hand-tied arrangement. This year Talena Rolfe will be teaching her style of thoughtful and romantic flowers. Talena's beautiful bouquets have delighted many JamJar brides this year. As the week progresses and you work on increasingly extravagant table decorations and foliage based arrangements you’ll learn about the form and structure needed to create natural looking flowers using bottles, buckets and other vintage containers.

Using a wide array of cut fresh flowers delivered direct from Holland along with natural materials foraged from the Chateau gardens, you’ll learn to create garlands and bowers with spellbinding touches. From the JamJar Flowers team you’ll learn the intricate art of making corsages, buttonholes and boutonnières as well as beautiful flower crowns and hair decorations.

This comprehensive workshop touches on table styling and this year we will be learning the art of pressing flowers to create unique and striking place names, menus and invitations. This will be lead by talented model maker Leila Watts who will also give a masterclass in making creatures out of chicken wire and wild flowers.

A highpoint of the week is the Enchanted Forest candle-lit dinner held in the woods under a canopy of hanging flowers.   We pull out all the stops to create a magical atmosphere for this theatrical evening with everyone lending a hand to set the stage for an enchanted evening.

Last,  but by no means least, on Friday we visit the monthly antique market in Toulouse where you’ll have the chance to hunt for vintage vases and vessels - or  anything else that catches your eye.

You’ll love this workshop and leave with a thorough understanding and appreciation of floral design and the confidence to create your own breathtaking floral arrangements at home.   Also included in the week are a visit to the atmospheric Sunday morning food and farmer's market in medieval St Antonin-Noble-Val and a visit to the nearby hilltop village of Montpezat-de-Quercy.

Melissa Richardson

Melissa was brought up in Sussex in a house surrounded by a beautiful walled garden. She worked as a stylist and casting director before starting Take 2 Model Management. The agency quickly gained success and represented some of the world's top models. In 2009 Melissa decided on a complete change and the idea of JamJar Flowers was conceived.

She finds that working with flowers has more similarities with representing models than she imagined as both hang their heads and droop if you don’t treat them nicely!

JamJar Flowers

From a simple concept, JamJars has grown to become one of the most creative and sought-after floral studios in London with an impressive client list and editorial features in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle and Brides Magazine. Their work ranges from hand delivered flowers in jars, intimate weddings, elaborate parties, photo shoots, and charity galas, including some elaborate prop making and styling.

In 2015 JamJar Flowers and Brora were awarded a Bronze Medal in the Chelsea in Bloom competition for an imaginative scene which included Little Red Riding Hood herself, the wolf, a startled bird, an owl and stoat.

Words cannot express what a wonderful week it has been. The highlight was the dreamlike setting for our Midsummer Dinner. I don't want to leave, but hopefully I'll return. Elaine P, UK
