About the Workshop

There is a reason why haute-couture milliner Dillon Wallwork is coming back to teach at Chateau Dumas in 2017 for the eighth year running.   With over 30 years’ experience in high-end model millinery Dillon has a set of skills that elevate him above other milliners and make his classes essential for students wanting to learn traditional model millinery.

Dillon has a loyal following of students who are ever eager to learn from him and on this workshop he will focus on teaching a variety of specialist couture techniques.  The first of these is a lesson in working with lace. You’ll learn about selecting foundations and how to achieve a beautiful couture piece by wiring and stiffening.

One of Dillon’s signature skills is the perfect bow and he will demonstrate how to construct and tie bows, knots and sculptural trimmings from a variety of fabrics, creating bows with flare and flourish from small to large. You’ll also learn about borders and binds and how to achieve a perfect finish both narrow and broad.

Headpieces must be both comfortable and stable and in this part of the workshop you’ll learn ways to ensure a hat sits comfortably and stays in place and explore different discreet methods of securing a hat.

The workshop coincides with the local International Hat Festival, Estivales du Chapeau,  which takes place in the nearby town of Caussade.   We will visit the Festival during the week as well as one of the local hat factories.  Also included in the week is a visit to the food and craft market in medieval St Antonin-Noble-Val as well as to a local fleamarket.

This workshop will suit those with millinery experience who are wishing to build on and perfect their skills.
