Enquire About AvailabilityFashion Sewing 2 : Creating an Ensemble from the Inside Out SOLD OUT

Saturday 25 August - 1 September 2018with The Sewing Workshop

About the Workshop

Join The Sewing Workshop for a personalized sewing experience. In this workshop, you’ll dive into a set of skills that center around the art of modern garment sewing with an artistic edge. Work intimately with two nationally-known instructors, Linda Lee of The Sewing Workshop and Nancy Shriber, founder of Contemporary Sashiko.

In this workshop week, you will construct a three-piece ensemble consisting of a lined jacket, tank and pants. Linda will share her in-depth technical skills for the best construction results, and Nancy will guide you through a creative experience to enhance your work.

You will begin by bag-dyeing silk charmeuse yardage, provided as part of the class fee. With some stenciled, stamped and stitched embellishments, your silk will be ready to use as a lining for your jacket. You will learn how to make a lining pattern when one is not included in the pattern, how to “bag the lining”, tips and tricks for working with slippery silk, how to make perfect mitered corners, and how to construct lovely bindings for simple tops and tanks in both knits and wovens.

You will enjoy a trunk show of Sewing Workshop ensembles by Linda and artistic work by Nancy. Linda will assist in making sure the patterns fit, and she will demonstrate construction techniques pertinent to the patterns being used. Nancy will add the artistic elements to the workshop with her expertise in dyeing and hand stitching one-of-a-kind garments.

In early 2018, we will assemble a curated selection of fabrics for your ensemble. These will be offered at a special discounted price and are recommended for you to purchase.

The studio at Chateau Dumas is a beautiful and relaxing setting with lots of space and light and is equipped with new sewing machines, sergers and everything you will need for a complete sewing experience. All you need to bring is your fabric and patterns and your basic sewing notions and tools.

During the week we also visit a local fleamarket and the nearby atmospheric Sunday morning food and craft market in St Antonin-Noble-Val, the medieval town where the films Charlotte Gray and The Hundred Foot Journey were filmed.

Linda Lee

Linda’s training and experience as an interior designer has come in handy as she travels the country teaching the art of combining beautiful fabrics for the fashion –conscious home sewer. Along with teaching fitting skills and fine sewing techniques, she is known for designing patterns under the name of The Sewing Workshop, a line of patterns for the modern sewer who is interested in architecturally interesting styles to flatter with flare.

Along with six talented staff members, she operates out of her pattern-making studio in Topeka, Kansas, where you will find a huge inventory of fabrics that are sold online. She produces a monthly series of inspirational tutorials called Sew Confident! in which she breaks down the latest fashion trends into real-life sewing experiences for people who want to sew better than they can buy.

With ten Craftsy classes and 13 books under her belt, Linda has the depth of experience and enthusiasm needed to pass on the fine art of sewing clothes to her students.
