Enquire About AvailabilityPleating Techniques

Saturday 23-30 June 2018with Bridget Bailey

About the Workshop

Milliner and textile artist Bridget Bailey returns to Chateau Dumas in 2018 to teach her special pleating techniques. Bridget launched her career with pleated fabrics by making scarves for Liberty of London and headwear for iconic British fashion designer, Jean Muir.

The techniques covered in this pleating class can be used in millinery, textile art and fashion projects. Bridget will start by showing you some simple techniques using different materials and build up to more complex constructions as the week progresses.

You’ll make two pleated headpieces during the week and a collection of samples exploring the ways fabrics can be transformed by pleating. She’ll show you how to highlight and enhance the pleating effects using textile printing techniques as well as how to colour and dye sinamay and abaca silk.

Her passion for making and attention to detail is infectious and will improve both your technique and your appreciation of what wonderful things you can do with materials.

We will also visit the Sunday morning farmer’s market in St Antonin Noble Val, the medieval town where the films Charlotte Gray and The Hundred Foot Journey were filmed.

This workshop is suitable for beginners to millinery.
